Residential Solar Panels (FIT & G83 Explained)
With the UK's latest move towards generating more residential renewable energy, more and more of you are wanting to invest in solar PV (Photovoltaic) technology.
Here is a simple explanation of what everything means.
Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)
MCS is the new UK Government backed scheme that ensures that a residential solar panel installation is to a set high standard. Providing the solar panels and the installer is MCS approved then you will be allowed to claim tax free money via the FIT scheme for up to 25 years.
Feed In Tariff Scheme (FiT)
FIT is the new Feed In Tariff scheme for renewable electricity generation. The scheme will be live from 1st April 2010. This scheme allows residential solar panel owners to claim back money for the amount (In KW/H) of panels they have installed for up to 25 years. For the amount of money that can be claimed please see our Feed In Tariff Explained article.
ER G81/1-1
ER G81/1-1 is an (Engineering Recommendation) and is an amendment to the Distribution Code. All Distribution Network Operators are required, by law, to have in place and enforce a distribution code.
The G83 engineering recommendation provides guidance for the connection of Small Scale Embedded Generators (SSEG's) when used in parallel with the national grid.
If you want to connect anything to the nation grid then is must connect via a G81 certified inverter, failure to do so can create a potentially fatal accident.
